Jameson 25th annual piano recital Oct. 1
WILMORE, KY— Eda Jameson will perform a piano recital Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in the Glide-Crawford Residence Hall parlor at Asbury College. She will also perform during chapel services on Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
Jameson has annually performed at the College for the past 25 years. “Asbury College has become a big part of my life, and I have felt really close to it and to the work that is being done at Asbury College,” Jameson said. “It has added a dimension in my life that has been kind of like a miracle.”
Her first public appearance at the piano was age five. “I had a God-given motivation to play the piano. I just didn’t have anything that I wanted to do like I wanted to play the piano,” Jameson said. Even before she began taking lessons she recalls using her hands to “play on faces” and loving the sound of the piano.
At 13, Jameson performed the Grieg A Minor Concerto with a full orchestra. She has made several recordings, and appeared on radio and television. With degrees from UCLA, she served on the faculty of Yuba College in California for 23 years.
Despite having performed for 83 years, Jameson said that she still becomes nervous before performances. “Even the great pianists suffer from this,” Jameson said. “If you don’t have some of it, you don’t have an exciting performance.”
Jameson will perform pieces by J.S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, Frédéric Chopin and Claude Debussy.
