Dr. Mark Butler joined the faculty as assistant professor in the School of Education in 2011. In addition to teaching special education at the graduate and undergraduate level, he has served as the Associate Dean of the School of Education (2014-Present), the chair of the Department of Educational Specialties (2012-2014), and as NCATE coordinator (2012 – Present). Prior to his appointment at Asbury, he had served as a research assistant at the University of Kentucky on a Goal 3 Institute of Education Sciences grant studying the efficacy of Enhanced Anchored Instruction. Before working at the University of Kentucky, he served as a special education teacher in the Jessamine County School system, working at both the Providence School and at West Jessamine High School. His areas of research include instructional strategies to improve outcomes for students with learning and behavior disorders, problem-based learning, and various topics related to teacher preparation.
