Submit a Breakout Session Proposal

A 50-minute session that includes time for a 40-45 minute presentation and 5-10 minutes of question and answer. Presentations focus on methods to improve children and youth's literacy skills. The intended audiences of these sessions include the following: K-12 teachers, pre-service teachers, media specialists, public librarians, and parents.

Proposals should reflect elements on one of the six tracks:

  • Incorporating children’s literature into the curriculum to motivate and enrich content area learning
  • Using mentored texts to improve student writing
  • Using informational literature to demonstrate and sharpen students’ ability to identify and model text structures: problem and solution, cause and effect, chronological, description, classification, and compare and contrast
  • Incorporating storytelling to enrich writing of personal narratives and other genres
  • Blogging about a shared text to increase reading motivation and comprehension
  • Increasing awareness and use of public libraries through unique programing
  • Promoting literacy through successful collaborations between public schools and community partners
