Foundation Year 

Fall Semester (15 credit hours)

Spring Semester (15 credit hours)

  • SWG 560 Social Work Research – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 565 Human Behavior & Social Environment II – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 570 Practice II: Groups, Communities & Organizations – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 580 Social Work & Theology – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 590 Field Instruction II – 3 credit hours (includes seminar; additional course fee)

Concentration Year – (Child & Family Services)

This program offers one concentration: Child and Family Services. A specialization in School Social Work is anticipated requiring 9 semester hrs. of designated graduate education courses taken in lieu of electives. Elective course options are available through Asbury Theological Seminary; students should discuss these options with an Asbury University academic advisor.

Fall Semester (14 credit hours)

  • SWG 535 Psychopathology – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 630 Advanced Theories in Practice with Family Systems – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 662 Applied Research (3 options available – Need Assessment, Program Outcomes, and Proposal Writing) – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 650 Field Instruction III – 3 credit hours (includes seminar; additional course fee)
  • Elective – 3 credit hours

Spring Semester (16 credit hours)

  • SWG 640 Child & Family Policy – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 670 Advanced Interventions with Children and Families – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 680 Social Justice & Ethical Issues – 3 credit hours (Integrative Capstone Course)
  • SWG 690 Field Instruction IV – 3 credit hours (includes seminar; additional course fee)
  • Elective – 3 credit hours

Advanced Standing Program of Study 

The Advanced Standing Program requires that three Advanced Standing courses be completed during the summer term prior to the student begining their Concentration Year of the program.  These three courses help integrate the Advanced Standing Student into our program. After these three courses are completed, the student follows normal path of a Concentration Year student.

  • SWG 580 Social Work & Christian Theology – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 585 Advanced Standing Seminar I – 3 credit hours
  • SWG 595 Advanced Standing Seminar II – 3 credit hours

Concentration Year – 2nd Year of Program (Child & Family Services/Ministries)

Same as above for Standard Program of Study

Standard Program, 4-Year Part-Time Program of Study

This program must be completed in 4 years and is available only to standard program students.  A desire for this program of study must be indicated at the time of application.  The number of part-time students will be capped at 20.
