Prof. Michele Wells – “The Measure of Giving”

October 04, 2013

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” -- Luke 6:38

What is the measure giving?  The measure of Christ giving was obedience even to the point of death. Certainly Christ could have easily chosen something else, but the measure of His giving was to fulfill the purpose for which He came.  Our giving also has to be a prayerful choice. We all have full lives, but it is important to reflect on what are we giving our time and attention to. Are we giving in an effort to attain a certain reward or are we answering the call of God?

We all want to feel good about what we do, but it is not just about our reward, but the divine connections that God would have us to make so that His love is felt by those with whom we connect.  Sometimes we can get busy doing many things for the right reasons but miss the call of God or wear ourselves out and then miss the blessing that God has for us.  Purposeful actions guide us to achievement of our purpose and not involvement for the sake of saying we are giving. If we are intentional about God’s purposes and His process, He is intentional about pouring out His blessing in great measure.
