“God’s Word Exposes Our Sin” – Dr. Mark Schell

July 10, 2017

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” -- Hebrews 4:12-13

Why is it that we feel we can hide from God? So many of us live two separate lives: the public life and the private life. We think that once the door is closed and darkness comes that we are alone and anything is permissible. Is this not totally illogical for those who believe in God? Do we really believe that God stays on the outside of the door or goes away when darkness comes? The reality is that God is present at all times and sees all we do.

What does this have to do with Scripture? Hebrews 4:12 declares that that the Word of God can “penetrate” and “judge.” This “living and active” Word exposes all the deception and lies within us. There is no hiding from God and His Word and our hypocrisy and sin is exposed for what it is.

Reading the Scriptures daily allows God to correct the deception of Satan’s blindsiding lies. Our responsibility is to continually expose ourselves to God’s Holy Word and His responsibility is to uncover our sins and show us a much better way. We can then willingly acknowledge that God is with us wherever we are.
