Dr. Rocky Wallace – “A Love Compelling”
“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” – Romans 12:10
In a meeting with Dr. Verna Lowe and representatives from other Kentucky universities recently, Verna referenced in a passing comment that she was working on another grant for Asbury. This would not be surprising, except for the fact that Verna had already accepted a position as Dean of Education at Eastern Kentucky University and only had a few days left in her role at Asbury.
I sat quietly as the meeting progressed, but something just wouldn’t let go. “Why would Verna take the time to still be working on a new grant for Asbury? This is her last month with us!” You see, she was giving back to the institution she had come to love so much in her years of helping it grow. She was being a good steward of her talents and still taking care of her beloved Asbury.
As Christians, we are taught from childhood about stewardship. But sometimes, it goes beyond that which we are benefitting from as well. Love at its highest level is the continued support even after we are getting nothing in return.
