Dr. Mark Schell – “It’s Not About Me, It’s About You”

“Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.” -- 1 Corinthians 10:24

When my siblings were in elementary school, my brother, being two years older than my sister, enjoyed welcoming her home each day by tackling her as she came through the doorway. This was great fun until the day came that she outgrew him! What a sight seeing the surprise and desperation on his face as she unmercifully pinned him to the floor with a great sense of vindication and pride.

Seeking your own desires at the expense of someone else never works out well in the end. Our mission as Christians is to help all those we can to find the Lord, accept Him as their Savior, and help them grow and mature in their faith. We need to be on alert for anything we may selfishly do in our lives that would cause someone else to stumble on the path or abandon their journey with God.

The Christian mission is a life of seeking the good of others over our own. Honestly examine your life. What are you doing, in word or deed, that is not representing Christ to those around you? What changes do you need to make? Your answer has eternal consequences!
