Dr. Ken Pickerill – “Our Daily Calling”

January 28, 2014

"Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.  Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”  -- Psalm 51: 2 & 10

We are called to a life of holiness, a life that strives to be Christ-like, endeavoring to maintain a daily relationship with God.  These words from the Psalms provide a clue to what might underlie the search for and a commitment to a life of holiness.  First we must be willing to look beyond ourselves by calling out to (petition) God in seeking His transformative presence, asking for His cleansing power.  What is to follow is expressed in the second verse above, words that are a portion of a prayer for renewal.  It is a prayer to the only One who could create a new person within.  This prayer for a pure heart, a heart of holiness, represents a transformed inner life.

If we only ask God to take away the sin, that would fulfill half of the petition.  Renewal must follow.  This transformed and equipped inner life may now exemplify the holiness to which we are called on a daily basis.
