Dr. Joseph “Rocky” Wallace - “The Puppy in the Corner”

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind." – Job 12:7-10 ESV

Several summers ago, when our youngest daughter was returning from her first week at church camp, her older sister and my wife decided to do something special to celebrate her home. So, they went to the animal shelter to pick out a puppy.

As they enjoyed the adventure and were about to make their choice, they noticed one little German Shepherd pup over in the corner—away from the other dogs. Instantly, they both fell in love with the little fella who seemingly had no interest in joining the crowd at the front of the holding pen.

However, it didn’t take us long to realize that Davey had special needs. He had trouble walking at times and suffered epileptic seizures if getting too excited.

This past Saturday morning, at the age of fourteen, Davey passed on. His legs had given out, and he had lost much of his hearing and eyesight. But may I just say this...he became the favorite of all of our pets down through the years. He lived a wonderful life and brought daily joy to our home.
