Dr. Clair Budd – “An Ambitious Prayer”

March 07, 2014

“… so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” – Ephesians 3:19

Can any prayer more grand, more ambitious, be offered than what Paul prays here for the Ephesians?

The very idea that frail human beings -- creatures so limited in our material existence, not to mention beset by depravity -- might be so filled with God’s own being and character, exceeds our wildest imaginations and challenges our highest hopes!

Yet, the fact that this appears in our Scriptures tells us that the prayer is not just some wishing upon a star by Paul, but is actually inspired by God.  That is, this is not just Paul’s prayer; it is the very desire and intent of God – that His people might be filled with His fullness.  We cannot make this happen no matter how hard we try, though God can “grant” this prayer as we open our lives to His work.

“God of holy love, I yield my life in all of its aspects to Your transforming Spirit; fill me to the brim with all of who You are.  In the name of Christ I pray.  Amen.”
