Dr. Clair Budd – “100% for Christ”

April 10, 2014

“It is he whom we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone in all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ.  For this I toil and struggle with all the energy that he powerfully inspires within me.” – Colossians 1:28-29

“Everyone.”  This word appears three times in this brief passage, and such words often appear in Paul’s letters.  I tend to be a bit more cautious – we might say “realistic” – less bold and audacious.  But not Paul.  He was on a mission.

But this is not just the mission of Paul; it’s the mission of the Church, of all believers.  It’s the mission Christ gave to His disciples before returning to His Father.  The particular part each of us plays in this mission may be different from that of other people, but we all have a part to play.  Some warn and teach like Paul, others pray or provide material resources, while still others may establish systems and structures within which the Church accomplishes its mission.

Notice, however, the intensity with which Paul is committed to this work:  “toil and struggle with all the energy….”  He won’t rest until “everyone” knows Christ and is mature in Him.  Perhaps the important phrase that’s easy to miss, however, is that it’s Christ who “powerfully inspires” this energy.  He’s the source for our bold vision and energetic involvement in mission, too!

Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see people all around who need to know and come to maturity in you, and fuel my drive to participate in Your mission.
