Spiritual Formation Team

Nurturing Spiritual Vitality Where We Live

The Spiritual Formation team is a unique program unleashing student leaders for intentional pastoral care on each floor, in each apartment, and with our segment of commuter students. Known around campus as Spiritual Life Coordinators (SLCs) and Spiritual Life Assistants (SLAs), these valuable team members are committed to creating an environment for all students to experience the fullness of God’s love and grow spiritually. These student volunteers receive specialized training to shape them for fulfilling their ministry role among their peers.

The SLAs lead a weekly connection time called Gather, where each student has the opportunity to connect with God and one another. Gather is a time for encouragement, prayer, and reflecting on the Word together.

SLCs partner with Residence Life staff to coordinate opportunities for the entire Residence Hall to come together throughout the year to focus on the hall theme, listen to student testimonies, or hear from guest speakers.

Spiritual Formation Team members help to cultivate the spiritual vitality of the campus through their own relationships with Jesus Christ and through relationships with others, no matter where they may find themselves on their spiritual journeys. In the pursuit of a life that is set apart, SLCs and SLAs are on a journey with all Asbury students to grow in holiness – in other words, becoming more like Jesus!

The Spiritual Formation Team is privileged to interact with so many residents on campus and journey alongside one another in this life of faith. The SLC and SLA application process begins early in the spring semester for the following academic year.
