Description/Responsibilities: 
• Working in consultation with the Corps Officers and the Corps Council • Developing relationships with children and youth ages 0-19. • Contributing to the social, emotional and spiritual development of children and youth in the community by mentoring, encouraging and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviors • Implementing, coordinating, maintaining and evaluating programs relevant to the children/youth and the community at large, such as monthly social events • Encouraging participation in The Salvation Army’s divisional youth events • Promoting and participating in community and church programs/services (including Sunday worship) • Recruiting, equipping and coordinating volunteers for programs • Praying with children and teens and/or leading them to a faith in Jesus Christ as opportunities arise • Interacting with community partners and resources to provide services to children and youth and their families • Participation on community committees • Identifying potential funding resources • Maintaining records of activities, statistical information, volunteer applications, and police record checks
Requirements/Qualifications: 
• Have a certificate/degree in Youth Work (or related field; courses in Biblical/Theological Studies an asset) • Minimum one year experience working with children/youth • Have the ability to establish meaningful and transformational relationships with youth • Be organized • Be a self-starter, able to work independently, with minimum supervision • Be able to develop and implement programs • Have Human Resource management skills, i.e. Supervision of volunteers • Be able to problem-solve creatively in keeping with Salvation Army policies and procedures • Be courteous, having the ability to represent The Salvation Army in a Christian manner in the community • Have an understanding of social, emotional, and spiritual needs of children and youth in an inner-city context • Have a valid Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract • Have a clear police record check and clear internal abuse registry check • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Publisher, Excel) would be an asset
