2-Year Urban Youth or Urban Children Ministry Internship
Company:Transformation City Church,
6725 W Burleigh St,
Contact Person:Jason Butler
Contact Phone Number:(262) 3892595
Description/Responsibilities:Transformation City Church is a 5 year old, growing church of over 300 located in urban Milwaukee, WI. Our mission is to live out the way of Jesus within a multi-racial, multi-ethnic community dedicated to brining hope, healing, restoration and salvation to all people. TCC has several available positions for a 2-year intern staff program in urban youth and urban children’s ministries. This position is unpaid so bi-vocational employment or personal support raising will be necessary. TCC is part of The Wesleyan Church and also a Christian Community Development Association partner dedicated to urban ministry. In the last two years we have launched two non-profits dedicated to urban ministry: Inhabit - recruiting Christians to live in under-resourced neighborhoods and Exploit No More whose mission is to end child sex trafficking in Milwaukee. Each week we reach over 100 children, most from under-resourced neighborhoods in Milwaukee and run programs dedicated to mentoring, tutoring and discipleship. We also reach and have relationships with over 50 teenagers on a weekly basis within our urban youth ministry. We have many partnerships in the city and are constantly looking to how we can be part of what God is doing around us to bring hope and healing to the oppressed and marginalized. These interns would be considered pastoral staff and join a staff of 8 (a mix of full and part-time staff) and grow into leaders within TCC. The leaders and staff would pour into these interns through intentional discipleship and ministry training and theological reflection. These two years would be intentionally developing urban ministry workers to help you understand the joys, difficulties and theology of urban ministry. You would be surrounded by a team of experienced pastors and leaders to train, teach, equip and empower you to serve the Kingdom in this vital way. You would take part in weekly staff meetings, conference trainings and ongoing discipleship. A 2-year commitment is required to apply for this position. Why so long? Because relationships take time to develop and we feel that a primary rule of urban ministry is long-term commitment. We are not looking for people who want a resume builder – we want those people who feel called or are exploring a call to urban ministry and are ready to learn, listen and give their lives to those who we are called to love. We are looking for two urban children’s ministry interns that would assist in the urban children’s ministry in activities such as being part of and leading parts of the mentoring and tutoring ministries, engaging in weekly Bible Club, teaching and leading on Sunday morning within the children’s ministry, volunteer training, summer camps and VBS, and developing relationships with the children throughout the week by being “on the ground” in their neighborhoods. We are looking for two youth ministry interns that would assist in the youth ministry in activities such as being part of and leading mentoring and tutoring ministries, engaging in weekly youth group meetings, intentional relationship building throughout the week, volunteer training, summer camps, developing programs and more. If the applicant is interested there is also opportunity to live in an “Inhabit House.” To learn more about this visit www.inhabitmke.org. Thanks!
