Youth Director St. Paul United Methodist Church Columbus, GA JOB DESCRIPTION: Youth Director of St. Paul United Methodist Church Purpose: The full-time Youth Director offers students the opportunity to initiate and/or deepen their relationships with Jesus Christ. The mission of the Youth Program is to develop and nurture the Christian faith, values and spirituality of students in the church community in the age groups of junior high and senior high (grades 6-12). The Youth Director shall report directly to the Senior Pastor. Primary Responsibilities: Youth Program – 100% • Oversight of the junior and senior high youth programs. These programs include worship, spiritual development, education, fellowship, discipleship, evangelism, missions, leadership training, and affirmation of youth and support of youth parents. • Initiate the visioning and implementation of a dynamic, creative youth program that attracts, retains, and disciples a vast number of students and becomes a model for youth ministry. • Recognize and accommodate the diversity of grade levels in coordinating a youth ministry for Grades 6-12. • Plan, provide, and coordinate leadership and curriculum for all youth activities. These may include Methodist Youth Fellowship, weekly Bible studies/small groups, Sunday School, Mission Trips, various outings, trips, weekend retreat, concerts, student contact, and periodic day and evening programming. • Plan and lead large group worship; including social and service events that are worshipful, engaging, relevant and effective to instructing training and nurturing. • Relate to a wide range of students from those who feel marginalized to those who are ready for a deep discipleship. • Develop a network of discipleship through small groups, mentoring, peer-peer relationships and personal mentoring. • Instruct and train students to understand and implement the Bible in their lives through Sunday school, small groups, and youth ministry class-settings. • Equip and lead students for life-changing mission and service. • Plan, promote, implement & oversee Wednesday Night activities. • Prepare weekly communication materials with youth and parents and regular communication materials with entire church. • Train, recruit, and support lay leaders and delegate responsibilities to them. Follow-up with observations, instructions, and encouragement. • Ensure that all youth activities are adequately supervised by approved, responsible adults. Follow child protection protocol as prescribed by the United Methodist Safe Sanctuary Program. • Develop positive relationships with parents of youths participating in the Youth Program and partner with them to enhance the impact of the youth ministry. • As time permits, participate in the lives of youth at SPUMC and the local community by attending school and educational events, sporting events, theater, and musical programs and social events not sponsored by SPUMC. • Attend weekly staff meetings endeavoring to work closely with other staff members to coordinate the youth activities, calendar, and vision with all other areas of church life. • Implement enrichment opportunities for students and or/their parents regarding youth and parenting issues. Schedule • Sunday Morning activities include coordinating all youth volunteers for Sunday school and other programs. • Sunday afternoon and evening E3. E3 meeting of all Jr. and Sr. High youth, coordinating all facets of the program; praise time, programs, snack suppers • Coordinate the Wednesday night youth activities • Plan active summer schedule including activities that encompass all aspects of discipleship. • Become a leader in the community as relates to youth ministry, working with other churches and institutions. Evaluation The Staff Parish Relations Committee will conduct an annual review of the Youth Director’s performance and compensation, the development and review of goals, objectives, and responsibilities. Qualifications: The preferred candidate should have the following qualifications: • Have a Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited institution • Youth and Family Ministry Education, or significant experience in Youth Ministry • Have a sound base of Biblical knowledge • Have strong inspirational speaking skills • Counseling skills • Methodist background Profile The Youth Director must • Be a Christian role model for youth to help develop leadership qualities and personal development • Be able to recruit, train, encourage, support and coach volunteer teams of lay ministers • Have strong administrative and creative abilities to plan and facilitate various activities of the program • Have good communication skills, both personally and publicly • Have the ability to build personal relationships with the youth of the church as well as provide discipline and structure Congregational Support St. Paul United Methodist values its brothers and sister who have received a call to support and nurture the faith of our young Christians.
