Women's Soccer returns from Bolivia
Compassion and competition highlighted the Asbury College women's soccer team trip to Bolivia over Spring Break, March 16-25. While competing in 10 exhibition matches over the 12-day trip, the team also managed visits to local orphanages and helped provide relief work for recent flood victims in the country.
On the field, the highlight of the experience was capturing a tournament championship in an eight-team field hosted by the Bolivia Evangelical University located in Santa Cruz. The Eagles also played the top club team in the country, Informa, in the main stadium of Bolivia, Estadio Ramon Tahuichi Aguilera. The Eagles came up short in the match, 2-0.
Off the field activities included working at two orphanages as well as running soccer clinics. The team also did relief work, sorting through donated clothing for flood relief victims. During that project they were interviewed on Bolivian television as well as receiving local press for their loss to Informa.
"The trip was not only a successful mission, but also a bonding experience for our team," said freshman Carol Fogler. "Whether on the field or working with kids, each of us have a unique talent that can be used together for a team effort."
