Senior grabs National Championship
WILMORE, KY— Senior Kerry Hancock of St. Louis, Mo., captured first place in the individual, 200-yard butterfly competition at the NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 28-March 3. Hancock, who is Asbury College’s first-ever swimming and diving NAIA National Champion, won the event with a time of 2:07.07. She earned All-American honors for her performance. Hancock is also the College’s fall 2006 homecoming queen.
Junior Ashley Poore of Markham, Ontario, Canada, also earned All-American honors with a second-place finish in the 1-meter diving competition. 
The Eagles swimming and diving team went on to an eighth place finish overall, setting 24 new Asbury College records at the meet.
“We’re incredibly proud of Kerry, Ashley and all our student-athletes,” said Dorothy Kempf, Asbury College swimming and diving coach. “Competing and excelling at the national level is an extraordinary accomplishment and all of our students should be pleased with their efforts.”
The championship was not the only honor Asbury College received. Three student-athletes earned Academic All-American recognition: Hancock, senior Brittany Hale of Lexington, Ky., and junior Caitlynn Taylor of Versailles, Ky. The team will be recognized at halftime of men’s basketball game vs. Mid-Continent University on March 6.
