Integral Internships
By Ashleigh Graves, a senior from Greenwood, Ind.
“The academic education and internships were key to my success after school.”
Internships are an integral part of the Asbury College experience, and for ’03 graduate Anne Sabatino, they were the springboard to her post-graduate success. From the start, Anne was focused on her applied communications major with a public relations emphasis. That motivation helped her to land internships with The Lexington Children’s Theater in Lexington, Ky., and The Promotion Company & Special Events in Indianapolis, Ind.
“I knew that internships were a good idea, but the credit requirement of the College’s communications program reinforced how critical that type of learning is to future opportunities, and also to finding a good fit in the job market,” says Anne.
The experience in her field paid off. Today, Anne is a sales representative for Novartis Pharmaceuticals. Anne says that her early preparation at the College helped to put her ahead of the game in a highly competitive field.
“Internships are excellent resume builders,” says Anne. “They help demonstrate to future employers that you have sought out relevant experience and they demonstrate that you are willing to be instructed as you work. They helped me to get a feel for the kind of environment I wanted to work in.”
