Baker Publishing to Release Devin Brown's Second Narnia Book

On January 1, 2008, Baker Publishing will release Inside Prince Caspian: A Guide to Exploring The Return to Narnia. This will be the second book about Narnia written by Asbury College English Professor Devin Brown.

Similar to Dr. Brown’s first book, Inside Narnia, which gave readers an insider’s look at The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first of the Chronicles of Narnia, Inside Prince Caspian will provide insight, commentary, and background material for Prince Caspian, the second book in C. S. Lewis’s seven-volume series.

“The Chronicles of Narnia have remained extremely popular since their publication over fifty years ago,” observes Brown. “One reason that readers from three generations have been so devoted is that these books tell stories our culture needs to hear, stories that, to some extent, have been lost or at least drowned out by a different type of message. It is not surprising that the recent film adaptations have been so enthusiastically embraced, since they tell this same story of loyalty and sacrifice and of the ultimate victory these virtues bring.”

Inside Prince Caspian comes out in advance of the second film adaptation by Walden Media and Disney. As the film generates renewed interest in Narnia, Inside Prince Caspian will be useful for groups and individuals who want to learn more about Lewis’s original work. Teachers, pastors, and youth leaders who want to talk about Prince Caspian after the film comes out can draw on Dr. Brown’s book for insight into Lewis’s themes and their connection to life in our world.

According to Brown, “Most of the material in both my Narnia books comes out of the class I teach at Asbury on C. S. Lewis and the Inklings. My students deserve a great deal of credit for raising many of the issues I have written about. Their questions and their genuine interest in Narnia helped inspire me to write a book in the first place. Reading my Narnia books is a way for to someone to have a chance to sit in on the class.”

Inside Narnia, currently in its sixth printing, was “highly recommended" by Library Journal and praised as “well-written and readable” by BookPage. Inside Prince Caspian continues in the same clearly written and easy-to-understand style.

Inside Narnia is available for purchase at Amazon.com and at Christianbook.com. Inside Prince Caspian is currently available for pre-order from both websites.
