Asbury College approved as Florida institution

Asbury College will begin offering elementary education as well as leadership and ministry, and management and ethics in Orlando, Fla.WILMORE, KY—Asbury College is pleased to announce that the Florida Department of Education’s Commission for Independent Education has approved Asbury College as a Florida institution. This enables Asbury College to offer programs at the Orlando site with ACHIEVE being the first.

“I am familiar with the deep spiritual heritage of Asbury College and its longstanding tradition of quality education,” said Marvin Royse, Florida Independent Education Commissioner. “You have something very valuable to offer our state. We are so pleased you are coming. Welcome to Florida.”

“We want to express our gratitude to the Asbury College community and all of those who prayed for God to pave the way for this process,” said Dr. Sandra Gray, Asbury College President. “The fact that Commissioner Royse made his statement about Asbury College affirms to us that the Lord has gone before us and paved the way. We look forward to and are eagerly anticipating our launching the program in Florida this fall.”

Asbury College will offer ACHIEVE’s three majors: leadership and ministry, management and ethics and elementary education. The ACHIEVE Program is a non-traditional accelerated program designed to provide adults with an opportunity to complete a college degree. ACHIEVE is for busy adults who have approximately 39 hours of previous college credit. Adult students can complete a degree in about two years attending class one evening per week. In May, the College awarded degrees to 23 members of the first ACHIEVE cohorts in Wilmore. For more information on ACHIEVE, visit the program’s Web site www.asbury.edu/achieve/.

Asbury College ACHIEVE classes will begin in the fall of 2008 at the Orlando site. The Asbury College-Orlando site will be located at 8401 Valencia College Lane, approximately 15 minutes from Orlando International Airport.
