Jennifer Mendelson vs. Mountain StateThe women's soccer program started its season in fine fashion on Saturday with a 6-0 win over an overmatched Mountain State (W. Va.) squad. The Eagles dominated play by registering 19 shots on goal while holding the Cougars to just a single shot. Asbury started the scoring with sophomore Kelly Wilson's goal in the 10th minute on an unassisted goal. Freshman Jennifer Mendelson (pictured, left) would score her first of two goals on the day in the 24th minute thanks to senior Rachel Woodward's assist to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead headed into halftime.Carol Fogler PK vs. Mountain State

The second half would feature more of the same from Asbury as sophomore Carol Fogler (pictured, right) led off the scoring on a penalty kick in the 58th minute before sophomore Kellie German added in the 65th, freshman Katie Crocker in the 87th and Mendelson rounded out scoring in the 89th on an assist from junior Laura Fellows.

"Today's game provided a chance for us to experience live-game situations instead of practicing against each other," added Asbury women's soccer head coach, Paul Nesselroade. "I am pleased with the team's effort but certainly there is work to be done over the course of the season to help us improve."

The Eagles will step out of regular season play for a scrimmage against Transylvania (Ky.) University in Lexington on Tuesday before returning home to face Hanover (Ind.) College on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The game is the first of a women's - men's double header with the men's team slated to face Hanover at 7:00 p.m.
