Women's basketball falls to Midway 60-55, will be the 5th seed in KIAC Tournament
Wilmore, KY - 23.3 percent shooting in the second half turned a 33-31 halftime lead into a 60-55 loss for the WBB, ending their regular season at 12-15, 3-6 in conference play. Injuries kept Sarah Yates and Amanda Bechtel out of the lineup, hampering the Eagles ability to keep fresh legs in the game, attributing to the poor shooting. Freshman Lauren Lee would pull up the slack with Yates' absence by registering eight assists and seven points. Brittany Abbott would lead Asbury in scoring with 12 points but would foul out late giving Asbury even less options from three-point range.
Even with the adversity the Eagles had a chance after a timely three-point field goal by senior Morgan Freeman cut the lead to 58-55 with 31.8 seconds left. Midway inbounded the ball and nearly turned the ball over on three separate occasions before Midway's Jackie Hicks would seal the game with two free throws.
The loss puts Asbury as the number five-seed heading into the KIAC Tournament on Thursday at home in Wilmore. They will face fourth-seeded Alice Lloyd on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
