Volleyball makes run to KIAC finals, but falls to Mountain State

The Eagles entered Friday's KIAC Tournament as the #4 overall seed and earned their way to the championship game before falling to Mountain State. Asbury first started their climb against host, St. Louis Pharmacy, winning in five games, 27-30, 30-17, 30-17, 28-30, 15-5. Ellen Adkison and Abby Andrews both eclipsed the 20-kill mark with 21 and 20 respectively, while Adkison also recorded 39 digs.

With the win the Eagles faced the # 1 seed, Indiana-Southeast the next day. The Lady Grenadiers had won all previous matches this year, but Asbury saved their best effort for last, coming away with another five-game win, 30-20, 26-30, 20-30, 30-27, 15-11. Adkison again recorded 20+ kills with 24 total, while Jenelle McClean and Julia Armstrong combined for 53 assists. Hannah Wheeler and Danielle Morrison registered 29 and 26 digs respectively.

With two, five-game wins under their belt the Eagles entered into the finals against the # 3 seed, Mountain State. In the end, the two previous games took their toll as Asbury fell in four games, 18-30, 25-30, 30-24, 28-30. Adkison turned the hat trick for 20+ kills with 26 in the match with Jenelle McClean registering 45 assists while Wheeler led with 33 digs.

The loss ends Asbury's season at 18-23 having gone 4-3 in conference play.
