Swimming and Diving capture Appalachian Conference championship

Swimming teamBristol, VA - Asbury College captured team titles in both the men's & women's events at the Appalachian Conference Championships, Feb. 13-16. The results also gave Asbury the overall team championship with a score of 971.5 points, topping Mars Hill College's 819 points.

Highlighting the event was Asbury sweeping both Swimmer of the Meet awards with Kelsey Perrine earning the nod for the women's award by winning all her events in the 200 backstroke, and 200 & 400 individual medley. Matt Hood tied for the men's award by sweeping the 100, 200, and 500 freestyle events.

The Eagles placed 10 members on the all-Conference team including Allie Hubach, who won the 50 & 100 freestyle, Abigail Sterneman, who captured the 100 & 200 backstroke, and 1-meter diving champion, Ashley Poore. Brad Huster joined Hood on the team by winning the 100 and 200 butterfly events along with Alex Keyser who earned first place in the 1650 freestyle. Also named to the team was Andrew Canada, Chris Lipka, and Will Sallee.

All told, Asbury will send 16 athletes to the NAIA National Swimming & Diving Championships in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 27-March 1.
