Men's Basketball brings home several NCCAA awards

Wilmore, KY - Brett Johnson and Derek Bland each earned selection onto the NCAA All-American squad with Johnson earning a first-team selection and Bland earning second-team honors after Asbury's appearance at the NCCAA Men's National Tournament in Oakland City, March 18-20.

The pair combined to lead Asbury to its eighth-straight winning season by going 18-16. It was Asbury's sixth appearance in the NCCAA's. The Eagles finished eighth after dropping all three games at the tournament. Johnson was Asbury's leading scorer for the year by averaging 17.1 points per game. Johnson missed several games in the second semester, suffering an injury during the team's trip to Hawaii. Bland rejoined the team with only one semester of eligibility in the spring, appearing in 20 games, scoring 13.8 points per game.Both Bland and Johnson eached topped the 1,000-point mark for their careers during the season, joining junior Michael Spann.

Fellow seniors Robert Coleman and Dusty Riedesel each earned NCCAA Scholar Athlete awards. The award is presented to upperclassmen who maintain a 3.4 GPA throughout their scholastic careers.
