Asbury set to host the Men's & Women's KIAC Basketball Tournament
Wilmore, KY - Asbury College is set to welcome the teams of the KIAC for the 2008 Men's & Women's Basketball Tournament, starting tomorrow and culminating with Saturday's championship games. All in all the event features nine games in three days, offering a basketball extravaganza that will send the men's & women's tournament champions on to the NAIA Division II National Tournaments.
Asbury's women's team will enter the bracket as the fifth-seed, set to take on fourth-seeded Alice Lloyd College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, officially kicking off the tournament as the first game played. The Eagles split the season series with Alice Lloyd, winning in double-overtime fashion, 88-87 back on Jan. 22nd. Alice Lloyd would get a measure of revenge, winning 82-64 in Pippa Passes on their senior night to level the series. The winner of the Asbury-Alice Lloyd game would then draw the overall # 1 seed, Midway in Friday's semifinal at 12:00 p.m.
The men's team will also play on Thursday as the fourth-seed against fifth-seeded St. Louis Pharmacy. That game is set for 7:00 p.m. Asbury has won both meetings against the Eutectics by an average of 49 points, winning 83-32 in Wilmore on Jan. 26 and 98-51 in the rematch in St. Louis on Feb. 16. If Asbury wins, they would meet the men's overall # 1 in IU-Southeast on Friday night at 5:00 p.m.
