Eagles take doubleheader from Miami-Middletown, 6-4, 6-1

Wilmore, Ky. - Asbury started Tuesday's first game against Miami-Middletown by allowing the visitors an early 4-0 lead before the Eagles would counter with a four-run third inning to even the score. From that point on, over the course of the two games in total the Eagles would score 12 of the next 13 runs to earn the two-game sweep.
Catcher Zach Monroe's double scored Slade Halvaksz and pushed Travis McConathy to third base before shortstop Greg Bowling would double to left center scoring McConathy and Tim Parker, running for Monroe. Bowling would eventually score on a Miami throwing error evening the score.
Freshmen Mark Deetsch, Josh Thigpen, and Gardner Adams would form a bullpen effort that only allowed two Thunderhawk hits after the fourth. Fellow freshman Terrence Shelburne provided the RBI double, scoring Adam Ward, putting Asbury to the lead for good. Shelburne would also later score on a Thunderhawk error.
While the bullpen didn't allow hits in the 7th for Asbury, three walks did load the bases with two outs before Adams would get a strikeout for the save with Deetsch earning the win for his three innings of work after starter Geoffery Witt was knocked from the game.
The nightcap provided far less drama as the Eagles would get out early with single runs in the second and third innings before a two-run double by senior Tim Parker would blow the game open as part of a three-run fourth inning. The timely hit was Parker's first of the season, scoring McConathy and Evan Thomsen. Parker would be the third Eagle of the day to later score on an error, giving Asbury a 5-0 lead after four. Cody Christopher would single to left field, scoring Blake Engelhardt to cap the scoring. Engelhardt would finish the game with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate, scoring two runs.
Koby Hearn earned the win in the second game with a five-inning performance, allowing only two hits while striking out four and surrendering only two walks. Cody Christopher and Brandon Boardman would provide relief with a Christopher wild pitch allowing Miami's only run and Boardman striking out the side in the seventh.
The win moves Asbury to 13-16 on the season with an impromptu game against Campbellsville scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles will then turn back to conference play by hosting Berea College this Friday & Saturday in doubleheaders on both days.
