Baseball rebounds with a 12-1 win over Cincinnati Christian

Blake EngelhardtWilmore, KY - Sophomore Blake Engelhardt hit a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Asbury a 12-1 win over Cincinnati Christian, ending the game due to the 10-run rule.

Engelhardt was part of a nearly complete roster change in the bottom of the fourth inning after head coach Lee Rogers was displeased with the sluggish play. The players coming off the bench wasted no time making their mark as the Eagles would tally seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving Asbury a 10-0 lead.

Engelhardt began the inning with a walk and would come back up to end the inning with a strikeout. In between, Asbury got RBI hits from Terrence Shelburne, a two-run double by Evan Thomsen, a sac hit by McKenzie Carter, a bases loaded walk from Jon Wes Adams, and a sac fly from Travis McConathy. Travis Martin added the seventh run by scoring on a wild pitch.

Josh ThigpenAsbury starter Josh Thigpen earned the win allowing only three hits and four walks while striking out seven CCU batters in five innings of work.

The team travels to Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati today before returning to conference play on the road at Alice Lloyd College on Friday and Saturday, each day featuring a doubleheader. The Eagles are next scheduled to be at home on Friday, April 18th against Berea College, however head coach Lee Rogers is still trying to get teams in for makeup dates. Details will be announced as they become known.
