April 17, 2018

WILMORE, Ky. — Asbury University’s Dayton School of Business hosted its annual Business Banquet to highlight the amazing accomplishments of its students for the 2017-2018 academic year. Seven seniors were honored for outstanding academic achievements including:

  • Student of the Year, Accounting: Allison Lyon ’18
  • Students of the Year, Business Management: Caitlin Conyers ’18 & Rachel Poole ‘18
  • Student of the Year, Marketing: Jennifer Stratton ‘18
  • Student of the Year, Sport Management: Jonathan Waterman ‘18
  • Professors’ Choice Award: Austin Cocanougher ‘18
  • Outstanding Senior: Bailey Patrick ’18

The banquet began with a welcome and prayer from School of Business Dean Dr. Michael Kane.

The incredible impact that the business program has on its students was certainly palpable during the celebratory dinner. Senior Tim Shell ’18 spoke about the impact that the School of Business and his relationships with professors have had on his education and the ways in which they have more fully prepared him for a career in the business world.

“It’s the biggest differential in our program,” Shell said. “The professors are not only incredibly equipped for what they’re teaching, but you just see evidence of genuinely wanting to know the students. It’s something that when I was looking at schools four years ago, I really enjoyed, but never imagined the depth that that would be instituted into when I got here. Professors make time for the students.”

The evening was punctuated by a speech from Howard Dayton, for whom the school of business is named. Dayton was founder and CEO of the largest financial ministry in the world, Crown Financial Ministries. Asbury University President Sandra C. Gray introduced Dayton before he spoke on some of the biggest lessons he’s learned over the last 50 years, working in both business and ministry. He encouraged students to intentionally submit themselves to Christ, build friendships that will last a lifetime and continually have a heart of service in their future marriages.

“You’ve been equipped to go out and to use the business platform to help others come to know about Jesus,” Dayton said.

The banquet also celebrated students’ success in business competitions throughout the academic year. In addition to competing in a plethora of competitions, Asbury students won more than $36,000 to fund their business ventures — a true demonstration of the Asbury difference.

Dr. Kevin Brown spoke briefly before presenting the senior awards, thanking students for their commitment to Christ inside and outside of the classroom.

“Students, thank you for acclimating your minds and your hearts and your hands to God’s reality during your time at Asbury,” Brown said. “May the world be better for it because you indeed are the best for the world.”

Congratulations to the 35 undergraduate and nine graduate students who make up the School of Business’ Class of 2018. We can’t wait to see how they impact the world utilizing the skills they honed at the Dayton School of Business.
