Our 12-week (fall only) program provides:
- an international experience in a major cosmopolitan center
- a 19th- and 20th-century focused semester of credit
- internship/field study (visual art, music, history, media, ministry, ESL, or French language credit)
- a dormitory setting with other Asbury students in the heart of Paris
- supervision by Asbury faculty
- comparable cost of a regular semester in the States
Prior French language is NOT required, though the option of French course credit is available. All students will have initial French language instruction at the beginning of the program.
Courses will regularly incorporate site visits. Paris houses the largest art collections in the world, for example, so regular trips to the Louvre, Pompidou Center and other important cultural centers will be a regular part of the educational experience in the Paris Semester.
Students will benefit from the unique opportunity of living abroad in a program designed to support Asbury University’s mission of equipping men and women for lives of learning, leadership and service.
The program is located at 93, rue de Sèvres 75006, in the heart of the historic Saint Germain district. This district derives its name from the Benedictine abbey of St-Germain-des-Près, now on busy Saint-Germain Boulevard, across from the famous Café des Deux Magots (a favorite hangout of Hemingway, Sartres and others). Established in the 6th century to house the relics of Saint Vincent, the church continues to drawn pilgrims of the Christian faith.
Students live and learn in the center of Paris, surrounded by remnants of its ancient and medieval past and Revolutionary history, alongside markers of ongoing contributions to modern and contemporary society.
Surrounding attractions include the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame, the Musée d’Orsay and the Luxembourg Gardens. Our partner French language school, École l’ Étoile, is located within walking distance, at 38 Boulevard Raspail.
Our host, St. John’s University, offers a 24-hour monitored six-story building with a mixture of dorm rooms, classrooms, dining space, and an administrative office. Wifi is provided throughout.
As a cooperating institution within the St. John’s Paris complex, Asbury University seeks to provide resources for Christian spiritual formation for its students in Paris, and holds students to high standards of conduct and faith in this learning and living community.
