Custodial Supervisor – Full-time position available at Asbury University’s Physical Plant. The Custodial Supervisor will manage and coordinate custodial services for the Wilmore campus with staff and student employees. The Custodial Supervisor reports to the Director of the Physical Plant.

Responsibilities:

• Make building inspections to determine if any areas need extra attention, especially when an activity has been held the night before or scheduled for public use. Coordinate with my staff and department heads to assign additional hours for special events or cleaning not performed.

• Prioritize work orders and give direction to appropriate employees.

• Interface and communicate with administration, faculty, and staff on problems or upcoming events.

• Responsible for maintenance of cleaning equipment, assigning to staff for repair or cleaning.

• Manage and coordinate custodial services for summer conferences and preventative maintenance of all campus buildings during summer break.

• Ensure that safety regulations are being adhered to by employees.

• Monitor personnel attendance records on a regular basis, checking time off (vacation, sick time, etc.) and manage for excessive time for vacations and absenteeism.

• Monitor and track building and material budgets for custodial services.

• Manage the custodial supplies and submit order requests to warehouse supervisor. Coordinate deliveries to all building supply closets.

• Interface with sales personnel on products, equipment and training ideas of current or new projects and processes.

• Work closely and effectively communicate with other Physical Plant supervisors to complete joint assignments.

• Coordinate with the Director of the Physical Plant in hiring employees for custodial department.

• Interview, hire and set up training of new student workers.

• Manage student workers on a daily basis and track their quality of work and work habits.

• Perform one-on-one employee meetings at least once a year with employees.

• Set an agenda and conduct quarterly department meetings.

• Evaluate employees’ work performance yearly and conduct one-on-one meetings to discuss their yearly performance evaluation.

• Attend daily supervisor staff meeting and other meetings called by the Director of the Physical Plant to discuss workload and personnel.

• Demonstrate ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.

• Process and sign time cards for all student workers.

• Ability to perform custodial work on an as needed basis.

• On call for emergencies after hours and weekends.

• Accept other duties as assigned.

Education and Preferred Experience:  High school diploma or equivalent required. 8 years of custodial experience or 2 years of technical or secondary school with 4 years of custodial experience. 2 years of experience in managing 5 or more employees. Ability to manage a large staff of employees and student workers. Good communications skills to interface with management, faculty, administration and staff. Product knowledge to evaluate for cost and use efficiencies. Ability to analyze, document, recommend, and present new ideas or solutions to problems in your business area to management and administration.  A committed and dynamic Christian faith is vital along with the ability to support the university’s theological position, lifestyle standards and mission.
