Faculty, Dean Prepare for Future Leadership
Asbury University Academic Dean Bonnie Banker co-chaired a recent initiative to invest in Central Kentucky higher education faculty — including six members of the Asbury faculty — so they may better lead and serve the region.
The initiative, known as the Academic Leadership Academy, was sponsored by the Bluegrass Higher Education Consortium, a group of 12 regionally accredited four-year institutions. The curriculum included full-day educational sessions as well as reading assignments and projects between sessions, with the goal of sharing new insights on topics such as Experiential Learning, Community Partnerships and College & Career Readiness.
Asbury faculty who received a certificate of completion included Dr. Bruce Branan (Natural Sciences), Dr. Kevin Brown (Business), Dr. Janet Dean (Behavioral Sciences), Josh Fee (Adult Education), Dr. Amanda Goodwin (Education) and Michele Wells (Social Work).
“The goal for the Academic Leadership Academy is to be proactive in preparing quality leaders in higher education for the 21st century,” Banker said. “The design of the workshop was to focus on young faculty with leadership potential and address challenges and skills that will enable them to provide leadership before those responsibilities are thrust upon them.”
Asbury University is a charter member of the Bluegrass Higher Education Consortium, which began in 2012 with the mission of advancing the region both economically and educationally.
