Director of Admissions, Alumni Move to New Roles
WILMORE, Ky. — If you’ve walked into the historic Hager Administration Building at Asbury University in the past 15 years, there’s a very good chance you had the pleasure of meeting Lisa Harper ’90 or Carolyn Ridley ’81. In fact, you probably were blessed to meet both.
In Ridley’s position as Director of Alumni Relations and the Parent Program for more than a decade, and Harper’s role as Undergraduate Admissions Director starting in 2008, these two dedicated professionals have developed first-name-basis relationships with thousands of prospective and current students, their parents, donors and an extremely loyal and involved group of alumni.
On Wednesday, the administration at Asbury announced Ridley’s and Harper’s roles would be changing…but their positive influence on the University would only continue to grow. Ridley is moving into the position of Senior Leadership Gifts Officer, and Harper will fill Ridley’s position as Alumni Director.
“I’m a connector of people. It's how God wired me,” said Ridley. “I love finding ways to bring people and needs together. This new opportunity will provide plenty of opportunities for that. When I heard that a new Development Office position was on the drawing board, the decision to move into a new chapter was an easy one to make… especially since I’d be handing off to such a gifted person. Lisa and I have been co-workers since I arrived here and she’s a real blessing for Asbury.”
Harper, who worked in Asbury’s Public Relations office from 1993-2008, says it will be tough to leave an Admissions Department full of committed, hardworking and fun individuals that work alongside families as they make life-changing decisions about college. But she is also eager to connect on a day-to-day basis with Asbury’s amazing alums.
“I have learned so much from my experience in Admissions,” said Harper, who will transition from that department during the spring semester. “There are great stories to share and an incredible opportunity to connect alumni with each other, with our students and with prospective student’s families. I am so thankful Carolyn will be available to guide and offer wisdom. The impact she has had on our alumni is great and I am honored to follow in her footsteps.”
Though Harper and Ridley may be heading down new paths at Asbury — after a combined 35 years of service to the school — each remains excited, dedicated and secure in the mission of the University.
“We both feel called to Asbury,” Harper said. “Asbury is not a perfect place. We are not a perfect people, but we serve a perfect God who loves us and wants us to love each other. It will be fun to discover new ways to serve each other.”
Note: During their transition into these new positions, the Admissions and Alumni offices will be open and running — and Harper and Ridley will be available — per usual. Please feel free to reach out to the Admissions Office (859) 858-3511, x2142 or Alumni Office (859) 858-3511, x2167 at any time.
