Whitman Bussey, a senior media communications major from Versailles, Ky., won a Platinum Hermes Creative Award for “Wherever You Go,” a six-minute movie.

The suspense-filled story involves a young girl who encounters trouble while walking home from a coffee shop. A mysterious man chases her through the streets and alleyways while she tries to escape.

“Wherever You Go” premiered at the 2006 Highbridge Film Festival and won Best Drama, Best Editing, Best Cinematography and Crowd Favorite.

James Donaldson ’07, a media communications graduate from Newborn, Ga., won a Gold Hermes Creative Award for his design of the Emmy postcard for the College’s media communications program.

Donaldson said he was challenged to create a mailing piece to showcase Asbury College’s Emmy-winning media communications department. Donaldson was surprised by the award. He was unaware that Dr. Jim Owens, chair of the media communications department, had submitted the project for the competition.

“It’s a national business award,” Donaldson said. “It’s not just for students. This award looks great on a résumé and opens the door for more awards in the same category.”

Donaldson said that since completing this project two years ago, he has done most of the print marketing work for the media communications department.

The College’s media communications web site, asbury.edu/mediacom, won Honorable Mention in the Hermes Creative Awards. Students in the Interactive III class taught by Greg Bandy, associate professor of media communications, were assigned to create a web site for the media communications department that was easily updatable for the coming years.

Students involved in the project included: Jeremy White and A.J. Stich from the class of 2006; Tyler Tate, James Donaldson, Andy Fowler, Bethany Heagele, Sara Roe, Josh Taber and Jordan Hollinger from the class of 2007 and Rob Hess from the class of 2008.

The Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of marketing and communication programs, and print, visual and audio materials. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops and freelancers. The organization is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.
