Young Alum and Graduate Student Passes Away

benlindle.jpgBen Lindle, class of 2005 and current student in the College’s graduate program, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2006 in Lexington, KY. Ben, a resident of Nicholasville, taught special education at East Jessamine High School.

While a student at the College, he was actively involved in the Equine Program. He volunteered with the Special Olympics and worked with special needs children and young adults. He pursued and received a grant from the Transformation Project that enabled him to create the Kid’s Choir, providing opportunities for performance and travel for children in the Hispanic community. In recognition of his service, he was one of four recipients of the Servant-Leader Award in 2004.

“Ben was a true servant-leader, not only on our campus, but in our community,” said Mark Troyer, vice president for student development. “Whenever he saw a need, he worked to fill it, be it mucking stables or teaching a child. He founded a children’s choir; he helped grow and care for a community garden in Wilmore and he mentored youth with special needs at East Jessamine High School. He was full of love, compassion and mercy. Never without a smile, he will be missed across this campus and in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”

A visitation with the family will be held on Monday, July 10, 4:00 – 8:00 pm, at the Betts and West Funeral Home, 404 N. Main St in Nicholasville. A private burial with family will take place Tuesday morning. A public memorial service will be on Tuesday, July 11, in Hughes Auditorium on the campus of Asbury College at 7:00 pm. Ben is survived by his parents, Doug and Lynn Lindle, and his sister, Beth.
