Baseball to return 2007-08
WILMORE, KY— Baseball returns to Asbury College beginning in the 2007-08 academic year.
“We are thrilled that the baseball program is returning. This is a very positive step for Asbury College athletics and has been supported by all levels of the College’s administration,” said Gary Kempf, athletic director. “It will open doors for future opportunities and programs that will further increase the College’s recruitment and retention abilities.”
The College plans to have a baseball coach in place by fall 2006 to recruit the new team. The baseball team will play its first game spring 2008.
“This news is like a big gulp of Gatorade during a double-header in the middle of July,” said baseball alumnus, Matthew Atkins ’93. “As a group, the athletic alumni are truly excited about what is transpiring on Asbury’s field of competition. It will enable and encourage even more dedicated and talented Christian student-athletes to learn and grow in the wonderful atmosphere that God has blessed and nurtured at Asbury College.”
With the implementation of baseball, Asbury College will field 12 intercollegiate sports programs including men’s and women’s cross-country, tennis, basketball, soccer and swimming, and women’s volleyball. The College competes in the NAIA and NCCAA.
