Professional Interests
My research activities vary widely, but always include Asbury students. In recent years students and I have:
-synthesized novel polyether compounds, and studied their metal-binding properties
-constructed an ozone generator for use in new ways in the organic chemistry curriculum
-used the ozone generator in a study on the effects of ozone on different bacteria cultures.
I am also working alongside our Education faculty to study and measure “rigor and relevance” of teaching in middle school, high school, and college classrooms.
What I do for fun
When I’m not in my office, it’s a sure bet you’ll find me at home. My wife and I have eight children, ranging in age from 12 years old down to newborn. My hobbies center around them, and include biking, hiking, and generally having fun. I also enjoy science fiction, home-improvement projects, and cooking (not in that order).
