Academic Background
I am a native of Chicago (and a Cubs fan, which says a lot about my character and tenacity). I received my undergraduate education at MIT and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
Academic Interests
My areas of mathematical interest are extremely broad. I am known around campus as the author of the textbook that is used in our calculus courses and have contributed to the department in a wide variety of ways (including serving a stint as the chair of the department).
One of my most enjoyable tasks is sponsoring Asbury’s participation in the COMAP math modeling competition. This competition has become a highlight of the year in our department, and Asbury’s record of performance is quite outstanding.
Other Interests
I am active in the residence life aspect of the campus; particularly among the men. I am also active in my local church.
My hobbies stay close to my true nature as a math geek. I enjoy working in the open-source community and have coordinated several Linux ‘install-fests’ at the college. I also enjoy the hardware aspect of computer networking and am the system administrator of the college's Linux cluster.
