Academic Background

I am an associate professor of computer science and mathematics. I earned a master's degree in applied mathematics from Montana State University in 1971 and a master's degree in computer science education from the University of Evansville in 1985. I have been teaching at Asbury since the fall of 1983. Prior to coming to Asbury, I taught mathematics for eleven years at Bartlesville Wesleyan College (now, Oklahoma Wesleyan University) in Bartlesville, OK.

Academic Interests

I divide my time evenly between teaching mathematics and computer science. My current teaching assignments include a course covering some concepts of computer science and mathematics and programming courses in Fortan, Java, and C++. During the academic year 2003- 2004, I was granted a sabbatical to work on a Java program that simulates an instructional computer.

Family

I met my wife, Lyn, while we were both students at Houghton College in Houghton, NY. We have been happily married since 1969 and have two sons; both of whom graduated from Asbury. Our older son, Dan, and his family serve with World Gospel Mission as missionaries in Hungary. Our other son, David, lives with his family in Canby, OR, where he is currently enrolled in a mechanical engineering program at Portland State University. We have six grandchildren.

Other Interests

Lyn and I are active members of the Wilmore Free Methodist Church where we have served in a number of capacities. My leisure interests include travel, nautical history in the age of sail (I am a member of the Nautical Research Guild), reading, and woodworking.
