Educational Services Assistant, Coordinator - King Curriculum Center

Academic PreparationPaula Troutman

I graduated from Bethany Nazarene College with a B.A. in Spanish and Secondary Education and a minor in English. Soon after, my husband, Philip, enrolled in Seminary and during that time I worked in the International Publications department of our denominational headquarters which included serving on an international curriculum committee. During that time I wrote Sunday School and Bible School Curriculum that could be used in various world areas. I also had some training in and did some writing of ESL Bible studies.

Philip and I served as missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in Africa for 15 years. My duties on the field included teaching Bible college courses, training Sunday School teachers, teaching and preaching, running a child sponsorship program, taking care of many guests, and home-schooling our sons. Currently, we are on a leave-of-absence from our mission board so that my husband can pursue a Ph.D. at Asbury Seminary. Although a part of us will always be in Africa, we are enjoying living in Wilmore and being a part of the college community.

Responsiblities within the Education Department

I am the Director of the King Curriculum Lab where I see to the day-to-day running of the lab: supervising student workers, ordering supplies, helping students with projects. I research curriculum and other resources that we need to obtain, order them, and catalog them as the come in. Also, I have various other record-keeping duties within the education department. I especially enjoy the chance to help and talk with students and try to make the Lab a welcoming place they will want to visit.

Personal and Family Interests

I love spending time with “my men”: husband, Phil and sons, Nathaniel and Christopher (both students at Southern Nazarene University). We like to watch movies and play games. Although there doesn’t seem to be much time for these things, I do enjoy reading, sewing, cooking, jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles, shopping, and going to Starbucks! I also like to write and have been working on a book of our time in Africa from a missionary wife/mother’s viewpoint.
