Instructional Areas and Professional Interests:
Dr. Young directs the education sequence for middle and secondary education majors and oversees the methods block. In addition she teaches courses in adolescent development, secondary classroom management, and reading / writing for secondary majors in all disciplines. Her primary focus for instruction is English methods and she also teaches adolescent literature and composition in the English department.
In the graduate program, Dr. Young works with the secondary education majors seeking initial certification, teaching courses in literacy, methods, and classroom management. In addition, she teaches a course in secondary literacy and a course in human development.
Research interests include composition studies, teaching of writing, and adolescent literature. Her current project is a book on teaching writing in the content areas.
Family and Personal Interests:
Dr. Young serves as the Chair of Higher Education for the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church working with United Methodist colleges and Wesley Foundations on university campuses overseeing the work of campus ministry in Kentucky. Her home is Louisville, KY where her husband pastors Crescent Hill United Methodist Church.
