Communication Arts

Theatre and Cinema Performance

As part of Communication Arts, the Theatre and Cinema Performance (TCP) program compliments and is enhanced by the nationally recognized Media Communications Department and its Film emphasis program. The major includes performance for stage and screen as well as the creation of new works. The performance aspect of the major focuses on foundational training in acting, voice, and movement and utilizes the Meisner-based, impulse technique. The new works aspect of TCP focuses on screenwriting and playwriting. Theatre and Cinema Performance gives students the opportunity to develop and refine acting, directing, and production skills.  Students will develop a strong understanding of the history of the theatre and its power to influence society and culture. This knowledge enables students to experiment with theatre communication techniques and approaches to an audience that stress excellence in performance and purity of purpose and the message.
