Engaging Culture Weekend

Asbury student's paintings featured at Narnia Night

Hailing from Union, Ky., Christina Aylor is a senior at Asbury College majoring in Art with emphases in painting and art history. From a young age, Aylor has trusted her faith for the direction she seeks in her creations.

Raphael once said, “When one is painting, one does not think.” For Christina Aylor, this phenomenon occurs only when the artist truly connects spiritually with what he or she is creating.

“Time means nothing and your hand seems to move on its own,” Aylor said. “And in the end, you don’t remember consciously making choices...that is the part of painting I love most: getting lost in it.”

Aylor’s exhibit, “Eyes of the Lion”, has been a true growing process for the artist.

“In the past four months I have thought about giving up many times, doubted my own worth, my choice of major, cried out to God and, in the end--every time--gone back to the canvas,” Aylor said.

The subject of Aylor’s paintings, Aslan, relates well to the artist’s journey. The fierce, yet compassionate, eyes of these paintings of Aslan stir the heart and inspire the soul.
“My pride comes from knowing that others believed in my talent enough to give me this opportunity, as well as realizing the Lord has inspired and assisted with each painting,” Aylor said.

Aylor's exhibit will debut at a special reception in the Asbury College Student Center on Thursday, April 24, 2008, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Paintings will be displayed for the duration of the weekend.
