Dr. Doug Walker

Associate Dean, School of Communication Arts, Professor of Media Communications and Journalism

Who is he? Walker's expertise in broadcasting have taken him to places as far apart as Alaska and Haiti. He has broadcast everything from the eruption of riots in Haiti to dog sled races. Walker has a rich background that combines media management, broadcast journalism and missions. He has held a variety of positions with SEND International of Alaska including news announcer, public affairs/news director for KCAM and operations manager of KRSA Radio. Walker was also Program Director and interim manager for Radio Lumiere FM in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

What’s he done? Walker has published several papers, which were presented to the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) in D.C. and Atlanta. His work has also appeared in Nieman Reports published by the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University.

Outside of class? When he’s done teaching classes such as broadcast news, mass communication theory, broadcast management, and radio production, students often see Dr. Walker outside running, walking the dog, or playing tennis. He and his wife, Marilyn, have two adult sons.
