Waslewski, LoPrinzi Lead Eagles to Win Over Oakland City
WILMORE, Ky. - The Eagles' women's tennis team has had a busy last couple of days.
After playing in the ITA Regionals on Thursday, the Eagles played two matches on Saturday against Berea and UVA-Wise where they collected one win and one loss-- their first of the season. The Eagles got just one day rest on Sunday and welcomed Oakland City University to Wilmore on Monday for their fourth time playing in five days.
Monday's performance, however, showed that the Eagles still had some energy left in the tank as they cruised to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Oaks.
Miriam Waslewski and Alex LoPrinzi played a crucial part in the Eagles' fifth win this season. The duo paired up in the no. 2 doubles position and took an 8-3 victory over their counterparts. Waslewski enjoyed similar success in her singles match as she cruised to a win in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. LoPrinzi met a little more opposition in her no. 2 spot, but ultimately poured it on in the second set for her fourth win this season (4-2).
Laura Ross and Dominique Ducdoc also picked up wins in their singles matches for points. The Eagles made it to seven points by forfeits from the Oaks in the third doubles spot and the sixth singles spot as they had only five players able to compete.
Through six matches this season, Waslewski has put together an unblemished 5-0 record as a singles competitor and in her doubles matches. Laura Ross improved to 5-1 in singles, but dropped her third straight in the no. 1 doubles position with partner Sarah Beth Alford.
The Eagles get 10 days rest before facing off against Midway College on Oct. 2 here in Wilmore at 5:00 p.m.
