Eagles Extend Win Streak to Three with Win Over Hanover
WILMORE, Ky. - The Eagles (3-0) found a little bit more opposition in Monday night's home opener against Hanover College (0-1) than they had been used to in the first two matches of the season, but in the end they prevailed to garner their third win in as many tries to open the season.
The Eagles took two-of-three doubles matches and three-of-five finished single matches for the win.
Most notably- the Eagles' no. 1 duo of Sarah Beth Alford and Laura Ross pulled off a come-from-behind victory, 8-6, after being down 5-3 early in the match.
The Eagles' no. 1 Alex LoPrinzi suffered the first lossed of her young career in both her singles matchup and her doubles match with partner Mary Nell Sparks. LoPrinzi's record as both a single competitor and doubles player dropped to 2-1.
In the no. 2 singles matchup, Sarah Beth Alford and opposition Kelsey Jones had their match suspended due to darkness. Alford was leading that match 6-4 in the tiebreaker but could not gain a point for the Eagles on the scoreboard.
It was a point they would not need, however.
Senior Miriam Waslewski, junior Kara Kaneko, and freshman Juleah Morehouse all collected wins in their matchups. Kaneko is now 3-0 on the season in singles competition. Waslewski and Morehouse are both now 2-0.
The Eagles get 10 days off prior to the ITA Regionals starting on September 19 and their matchups against Berea and UVA-Wise on September 21.
