Gilles and Myers Named KIAC All-Conference
WILMORE, Ky. – After a second place finish in the KIAC regular season and tournament, Asbury women’s tennis players Shelby Gilles and Jordan Myers were named KIAC All-Conference members during the tournament this weekend. This is the first selection for Gilles and second for Myers.
Gilles (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished a freshman campaign splitting time at number one and two singles. She tallied an 8-5 overall record, tied for the team lead in wins, including a 5-3 mark at number one. Gilles also participated in the ITA Regional Tournament back in September, going 1-1 in the tournament. Gilles was 4-2 in KIAC matches.
In doubles Gilles won nine of 13 matches including a near-perfect 6-1 mark in the KIAC. Gilles and Myers played 11 matches together at number one doubles and posted a 7-4 record and a 4-1 mark in the KIAC. Myers finished the season 7-5 overall in doubles play while Gilles was 9-4.
Myers (Edwardsville, Ill.) makes her second appearance on the KIAC All-Conference team in her senior year, wrapping up a three-year career at AU. Myers was also a 2010 selection to the team. In 2012, the senior posted a 5-8 overall singles record but was 3-3 in the KIAC. She won 23 matches in her career as an Eagle and helped the team to three straight second place finishes in the KIAC. The Eagles also went to the NCCAA National Tournament in 2010. Their 41 wins over the last three years are the most in any three-year span for the program and their three straight 10-win seasons account for three of the five 10-win seasons in the programs history.
Asbury finished the 2012 season with a 11-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the KIAC. Two of their three losses came at the hands of Indiana Southeast, including a 5-1 losing decision in the KIAC Tournament Championship.
