Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season with 9-0 Win

Morgan AmisPITTSBURGH, Pa. – Asbury women’s tennis won their third straight and secured no worse than second place in the conference with a 9-0 win over Carlow on Friday afternoon.  The Eagles can win a share of the KIAC Title with a loss by Indiana Southeast today.

The Eagles (9-2, 7-1 KIAC) have finished no worse than second in the conference in all three years under Jarred Mille.  Their only conference loss this year came against Indiana Southeast.  If the Grenadiers were to lose to Indiana East then Asbury will finish in a tie for first, claiming their first KIAC Championship. 

On Friday against Carlow the Eagles dropped only 13 games in the nine matches.  In doubles the Eagles won convincingly, dropping onlyl four games along the way.  Shelby Gilles and Jordan Myers finish the regular season at 5-3 at number one doubles while Izzy Howell and Sarah Marshall improve to 6-2 at number two.  Morgan Amis and Estelle Withrow won at number three, the first time they’ve been paired together.

In singles play the Eagles were just as dominant, winning seven sets 6-0.  Gilles finishes up the regular season tied with Morgan Amis with seven wins.  Gilles wraps up play at number one with a 4-2 record and 7-4 overall.  Amis played all nine matches at number five. 

The Eagles will wait for their seed and match time in the KIAC Tournament that will begin on Friday October 26 in Richmond, Ind.
