Women's Tennis Defeats Brescia

Izzy HowellWILMORE, Ky. – Asbury women’s tennis improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the KIAC with a 5-3 win over Brescia in their final home match of the season on Saturday.  The Eagles have only one more match before the KIAC Tournament.

The Eagles took two of the three doubles matches before winning three singles matches.  Miriam Waslewski was up a set at number four singles before the match was called as Brescia was travelling to Berea later in the day.  The team match had already been decided by that point.

Morgan Amis won at number five singles 6-1, 6-1 to tie Shelby Gilles for the team lead with six singles wins this year.  Izzy Howell remains unbeaten in singles play at 4-0 after a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six.  Sarah Marshall was also a winner in singles play, improving to 4-5 on the season with a 6-0, 6-4 win at number three.

In doubles action Marshall and Howell improved to 5-2 with an 8-3 win at number two.  They are a perfect 4-0 in KIAC matches.  Amis and Waslewski remain unbeaten together at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in league play with an 8-2 win at number three.

The Eagles will wrap up the regular season next Friday with a trip to Carlow in Pittsburgh.  The KIAC Tournament will be hosted by Indiana East the following weekend, October 26-27.  Asbury is currently in second place in the KIAC with a 6-1 mark.  They are 8-2 overall.
